Richard Anderson
Director of Music

It has been a joy to serve East Side as Director of Music for the past 13 years. I got my start directing choirs when I was a senior in high school (many, many years ago!). That was the beginning, and I've been directing choirs every year for the past 37 years.

My wonderful wife, Willa, and I have been married for 32 years. We have four grown children and two grandchildren. Our favorite times are spent with the entire family on Sunday afternoons. Since Willa and I love the ocean, we vacation in Myrtle Beach every August.

I am a graduate of The Ohio State University. In 1978, I graduated after majoring in music, English and literature. My one and only teaching job has been at Watkins Middle School for the past 31 years. I plan to retire from teaching in the near future and spend more time in the music and worship ministry.

God has brought me through several health trials over the past three years. He saw me through kidney and bone cancer in 2006. Willa, my family and church helped me physically and spiritually during this journey in my life. I highly recommend the James Cancer Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.

On a lighter note, did you know I dotted the "I" in my high school marching band? Don't act too impressed. There were only two tuba players in the band!

Another trivia note, I had the opportunity to play a piano concert for a billionaire and his corporation. Now that was an exciting time for me.

I enjoy worshipping the Lord as I listen to and critique the latest worship releases from the major Christian music companies. I seek God's guidance each week in selecting music for the choir/band and congregation to sing. Coming together in corporate worship each Sunday at East Side is a humbling and rewarding experience. I am forever grateful for His presence in my life and the opportunity to serve Him and His people.
